Going to Roost

With all the family gone to their respective residences and after a good sunday roast some fresh air was needed so late afternoon I headed off to Twitchers. There was plenty of activity with a lot of Shoveler flying up and down the lake. Half-a-dozen Goldeneye flew low across the lake as well. Still good numbers of Pintail around but Wigeon numbers seem well down. Noting the amount of gulls movng through I decided to head off to Lake 16 to have a look at the roost. Luckily for me super gull-watcher Kim Milson was already therewith a couple of other birders and he very kindly directed me onto an adult Med Gull that obviously I would have easily found myself (yeah right). In all there must have been between six and seven thousand gulls in the roost. Many Starlings were flying over to their roost and a Kingfisher made a couple of passes along the lake making it a worthwhile visit.
