Slow in Savernake,

With it being a calm clear sunny morning I thought that Savernake might be a productive site to visit. Arriving at just gone nine I parked on the Grand Avenue and walked through the Arboretum to Thornhill. First bird heard was a Coal Tit but I didn’t manage to see it. Very quiet here with just a few Robins and Blue Tits and a single Song Thrush flitting around. Not much more happening at Thornhill, Green Woodpecker heard and Goldcrest seen. Othe than that just tits, Blackbirds and a couple more Song Thrushes. Heading back through the Arboretum it picked up a bit with four Wrens a couple of Nuthatch, single Treecreeper and a heard only Great Spot. I drove home vial Froxfield and Ramsbury. Froxfield was productive with five Gadwall and two Teal on the pond and eight Little Egrets and two Grey Herons along the stream. With the cattle on the top fields were another seven Little Egrets. Not much seen on the rest of the journey home with just a couple of Red-legged Partridge worth noting.

  1. I took a visit to the forest a few days ago…with Willow Tit in song being a highlight.

  2. Great Lodge Bottom, just north of Thornhill area.
