Easy Birding

Despite the foul weather this morning I headed out to Barbury Castle to check out the finches. I parked in the usual spot and fortunately the wind direction allowed me to sit in the car with the window open without the rain coming in. There were a good number of birds perched out on the leeward side of the hedgerow. They were mainly Chaffinch with a couple each of Brambling and Yellowhammer. Birds were constantly moving around, some moving deeper into shelter and others flying to or from the adjacent fields. A couple of runners passed sending a mass of birds up, at least a hundred. Flying up, some circled and returned while others headed away. Over the next few minutes they started to return with just a single Tree Sparrow being seen along with several more Brambling, some Greenfinch and Blue and Great Tits. In all I saw eleven species which was pretty good considering the conditions. IMG_1269 (1024x695) (2)
