Belated Weekend Post

Activities this weekend have included, working, cooking (friends over last night), looking at and test driving cars, and then more work so no proper birding again. On Saturday I was driving on the A27 near Portsmouth and managed to see a flock of Brent Geese and a group of eight Black-necked Grebes. Later in the day I drove past Froxfield where there were eight Little Egrets and a Heron, Savernake where there was a herd of fifteen Fallow Deer and Ogbourne with eight Mute Swans and a few gulls on the fields by the river. On my way home from work I checked out a couple of the flooded areas around Chiseldon and had two flocks of gulls, one of one hundred and thirty-eight and the other one hundred and forty-five. Both had Black-headed, Common, Herring and Lesser Black-backed with a few of the Black-headed in full summer plumage. A check on the Little Owls found them both out enjoying the sunshine. Sunday evening heading back to Swindon along the Fosse Way gave me a sighting of a Tawny Owl as it flew across the road just outside Moreton-in-the Marsh. It will be working tomorrow and then on Tuesday, instead of the intended morning walk in Savernake there will be a drive to Trowbridge to look at a car. Hopefully there will be a chance to do some birding in the area while I am there.
