Busy Water Park

Spent a few hours at the Water Park with Pete today. Starting from Waterhay we did the short Cleveland walk. It was a bit misty when we set off so we spent some time working the Hedgerows This turned out to be quite productive with many small birds seen, including five species of warbler, Willow, Garden, Blackcap, Whitethroat and a singing Chiffchaff. Further on in the walk we added Reed and Cetti’s giving seven species. One of the two Red warblers seen was ringed. Green and Great-spotted Woodpecker were seen and heard. A Hobby flew over and a Sparrowhawk shot past us at almost zero feet on the Thames Path. Plenty of butterflies about with the star being a Clouded Yellow that settled long enough for me to get a couple of reasonable pictures.Kent End was quiet with just Little Egret and Little Grebe added to the day list. From Twitchers we scanned Lake 74 for the Black-necked Grebe but could not find it. Seen here were a Ruff, two Curlews, Lapwing, 3 Little Egrets, two Wigeon and a female Goldeneye. In all we managed a total of forty-eight species.
