Always time for birds

On the way home from an early visit to Marlborough to do some shopping I stopped off at Ogbourne for a few minutes. Red Kite, and a few Linnets, Chaffinches, Yellowhammers and Corn Buntings were seen. Then it was over to Wroughton to buy pet food. A short stop at Wroughton Reservoir gave the usual mix of Little Grebe, Gadwall, Tufted Duck, Mallard, Moorhen and Coot. Back at home and I noticed that there was a tractor working in the field over the road. Large numbers of birds were seen, Black-headed, Common, Herring and Lesser Black-backed Gulls, Crow, Rook, Jackdaw, Starling Wood Pigeon were numerous and four Buzzards were also seen on the ground. Next was a Saturday afternoon dog walk to Liddington Hill and the Ridgeway. Plenty of Yellowhammers and Chaffinches plus Linnet, Skylark and Fieldfare. Singles of Buzzard, Red Kite and the star bird a Merlin were also seen on what turned out to be a really pleasant sunny afternoon. Here’s hoping for more of the same on the WOS trip tomorrow.
