Another surprise

With a busy morning planned I managed to fit in a short walk along the old canal at Bincknoll. Both Whitethroat and Lesser Whitethroat were seen as were Green and Greater Spotted Woodpeckers, the latter appeared to be nesting in a hole in a telegraph pole. A few Swallows were over the canal and five Mallard on the water. On reaching the first lock a bird flew out of the bushes onto the grass showing a flash of rusty red on the tail. It stayed on the grass long enough for me to confirm it as a juvenile Redstart, not on the list of expected sightings. Pied Wagtail and Kestrel were seen here and back along the canal were a few Common Darters, Meadow Browns and Gatekeepers.
