A longer walk

Feeling the need for a bit of extra exercise I headed off on a longer than usual walk with the dog. From Chiseldon, past Folly Farm, onto the Ridgeway then down through Lower Upham and back along the railway path. In all just over five miles. Again there was noticeably less birdsong but I still heard and saw a dozen Corn Buntings. Two Yellowhammers and three Skylarks plus a few Goldfinches were expected as were several Swifts and Swallows. However a flock of eight Mistle Thrushes was a surprise. Three Whitethroats and a single Long Tailed Tit were at Lower Upham and it was not until almost four miles had been covered before a Song Thrush was heard with four singing around the Firs on the railway path, a further two were singing by the car park at the Chiseldon end.
