Into the night

I left home at just after half eight on my way to Savernake Forest for my annual visit during the solstice week. I went to a different area from where Nightjar were seen last month. Two Barn Owls were seen at a regular site and then at a nest box,  young could be heard with an adult appearing a little later. Tawny Owl was heard once. At around a quarter to ten the first of  three sightings of Woodcock  was made. They may all have been of the same bird. A couple of Song Thrushes sang incessantly, finally stopping at twenty past ten. By this time I had several sightings of Bats and also a couple of Hares. No sight or sound of Nightjar this time. The best sighting came right at the end with a solitary Glow worm seen alongside the main track. This is the third year running I have seen Glow worm here. Not a great picture and obviously taken with flash. Here is one taken without flash.

Great to read you have seen a glow worm in Savernake. If possible could you log this onto the survey site http://www.glowworms.org.uk. Always good to get such sighings recorded.

    • Hi Andrew,
I have already reported it and received acknowledgement.
      My only sighting this year.
