Hoping for a Hoopoe, part 2

A Hoopoe was reported in gardens and fields at Elcombe near Wroughton this morning. So after work I went for a drive around the area. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. I had expected to see a large group of birders by the road all watching the Hoopoe sat on a nearby fence post. What I got was empty lanes with deserted fence posts. I saw a couple of people in gardens but when I spoke to them they didn’t know about the bird. So, a nice area with plenty of common birds but as expected (I was joking about the large group of birders) no sign of the Hoopoe. All part of the joy of birding.
