Oxfordshire excursion

Myself and Steve decided to go over the border again this afternoon to revisit the area near Buscot where we saw the Hen Harriers ( see 02-01-2012 Wiltshire new year). A general scan on arrival gave the unusual sight of 5 Kestrels hunting in a fairly small area. I soon located a Harrier and Steve picked up a Short Eared Owl which was mobbing a Buzzard, It then went on to have a go at one of the Kestrels. Another Owl was seen soon after, along with another Buzzard. Two Roe Deer were feeding in the middle of the field. We then followed a footpath down to the River Cole, seeing four more deer and half a dozen Hares. Also seen were a flock of Fieldfare and the first Linnet, Yellowhammer and Red Legged Partridge of the year. Further views were had of two Owls, and a Grey Partridge was heard calling. Unfortunately it was too dark to have any chance of seeing it. Again another excellent couple of hours birding. It just goes to show what great birds are around in what sometimes, at first sight, look to be fairly uninteresting areas.
