Braydon Forest and the Water Park.

First Light saw myself and Steve (Davies) headed for Ravensroost Wood which is part of Braydon Forest, another area I don’t get to very often. It was damp and windy but in the shelter of the wood not unpleasant. Nuthatch and Greater Spotted Woodpecker were heard, around ten Bullfinch and great views of a group of eight Redpoll.

Moving onto the Water Park and Lakes 57 and 41. Most numerous of the wildfowl was Wigeon. Most of the expected species were seen although in fairly small numbers. A last-minute decision to stop by Lake 62 was rewarded by what turned out to be the first winter sighting of Smew. With a male and a redhead seen. We finished off at Lake 12 to give the coffee flasks an airing. Twenty plus Common Gull and five Goldeneye being the reward.
